The Deseado Mesocraton (the Deseado Massif) is the ancient geological structure that joins continental Patagonia and the Malvinas Islands in a single mass of ancient (archaic) rock. In the 1966 gesta (campaign-cycle) of the Operativo Cóndor it is the bedrock beneath the islands’ horror, older than any history.

Description
The naturalist Harrington traced the underground continuity: beneath the disputed sea there is a single, very old floor, with the South Atlantic covering the two ends of one body of stone. The politics of the Operativo Cóndor (the hijacked plane, the seven flags over the mob, the sovereignty of the South Atlantic) take place on the surface; the mesocraton lies beneath them. The earliest manuscript record spells it nesocratón del Deseado, also attributed to Harrington; both names refer to the same structure.
Role in the gesta
- When the condors cross, the plane flies at about 105 over the bay of San Julián, on the Deseado coast, right above the massif; the forced landing on the islands is a descent onto another point of the same rock.
- The zirconium at the heart of the island, catalogued by science, unearthed on disputed soil and awakened by the Order with blood, is this southern rock become a living organ: the mesocraton is the sleeping body, the zirconium the place where it opens its mouth.
- The cylinder marked with strange signs, which the brotherhood moves around the island still sealed, coordinated by the widow and the man called Garfield, belongs to the same thing that sleeps under the rock. Antonio Portet will learn to attune to it through the dream sphere, as what lies “beneath reality”.
Platforms
- The Argentine claim to the islands rests on the continental shelf (plataforma continental), which the mesocraton makes one.
- On that shelf, during her surveys for YPF, Irene Kowalski finds an impossible anomaly: a huge cavern on the seabed, exactly where an oil platform is to be built, with something large down there that moves with the seasons.
- In the New World chronicles of 1987 the platform mechanism is “co-opted by Yog-Sothoth”. The name already appears among the hidden enemies in the gesta of the Libertateurs (New York, 1784). In an older thread of the archive, plataforma means “prison”.
A “claim of certain entities” on the Malvinas would, in this reading, mirror the human claim of sovereignty: two sovereignties over the same shelf. What Yog-Sothoth covets beneath the islands would be not the land but the node, the platform of the mechanism stretched between the gestas.
