The Maruts are axial planar creatures catalogued in the Bazaar of San Dragón: Inevitables who enforce primordial cosmic law, appearing wherever a law of the cosmos is broken. Six of them hold the Masracht, vampire father of Caladan, prisoner in the Palace of the Prism in Ardis Vala.

Description

Massive humanoids, constructs or gear-creatures in heavy armor with axial symbols. They are immortal, their wounds close by themselves, and charm and compulsion fail on them. Their ward pins a captive to the plane and smothers all magic.

Role

They are the lawful pole of the Game of Shadows, counterpart to infernal and abyssal chaos. The prison is also given as the Castle of the Prism; they are linked to the Knights of the Scar of the Sun through the taking of the Bastion.

History

  • The Seekers of Ardis Vala confronted them and the Masracht.
  • In King Street, New York, 1784, during the closing of the platforms, a Marut attacked Les Libertateurs on their third meeting, cast an earthquake and was destroyed; its spoils were marked “U”/“1”, the seed of the link with Union. Maruts pursue a broken law across eras.
  • After the Hiatus, Pope Alexander VI may have subordinated or replaced the Marut custody.
