The Tides of Time are the way of traveling through time in Antiterra during the crossing to America: sailing between decades aboard the white-sailed ship of the Atlanteans, under the law “space determined, time undetermined” — the ship knows its coast, not its year.

The crossing

The ship’s elders explained the law. Returning to the house of the sky where the group had been promised (Taurus) meant sailing against the temporal tide, whose chance could drag travelers decades forward. Setting out from 1717 A.D.A. from the frozen waste of the Siege of the Tower of Heva, they watched the coast’s history pass like a parade — the death of Blackbeard in 1718, the treaties of Paris, Pensacola, the congress that in 1792 chose the bald eagle — until they landed sixty-seven years later, in 1784, at Antigua.

Rules

  • The game of the platforms (the Game of Shadows) is cyclical and restarts again and again; hence the “undetermined” time.
  • There is a limit not to be crossed: “the first great war”. The tides do not carry beyond it.
  • Whoever travels without the ship’s protection — like Casemiro, who crossed alone as an eagle — is at the mercy of the same hurricane wind.
