The Blue Mourner (La Doliente Azul) is a bluish, translucent female apparition of the Sogol chronicle, bound by a chain that runs beneath the Temple of Ashtar of the Ice. She said nothing, but left all who saw her with a gratitude not their own.

Description

Grief sits on her like a crown; hair and clothes drift as if underwater. A chain issues from her body and runs taut downward. At her feet is a row of impossible daisies. Her face is left undepicted.

Manifestation

She appeared over a disturbed grave in the temple’s frozen garden when the companions of the living gesta killed the thing desecrating it. The grave is an old priest’s, buried in haste by pious hands; daisies grew on it in a row, impossible in that cold.

  • All the witnesses felt at once an ancient, enormous, disproportionate gratitude.
  • All saw the chain run downward, taut and faintly sounding, into the temple’s earth, toward the depth from which the howl rises when the wind slackens.
  • Before dissipating she pointed at the temple. The witnesses were left certain that her relief waits down there.

Open questions

  • Her name and identity: the witnesses could not name her.
  • The archive notes a resonance with the Lady of Pain without asserting it.
  • Street versions in Sogol also speak of a woman who ceased to be.
