The Kerubines are two angelic figures who share the role of Christian paladins in a cathedral, protectors of the Christian order. They act in the Descent, the Dantean hell the group travels through. They are true angelic entities, distinct from the “3 Marías” (humanoid Templar paladins).

They fight in stained-glass windows (possibly a mirror realm or illusion). They are problematic for three reasons:

  • They fight the infernal authorities.
  • They cause collateral damage to the group.
  • Protocol forbids them to “cross” border lines, so they cannot pass the threshold of the City of Dis.

Context

  • The Lost Ones, the damned of the Ante-Inferno, contrast with these entities of light.
  • Swedenborg is a figure of the same cosmos tied to the angelic order.
  • Minos is the infernal judge, an authority opposed to the Kerubines in the hierarchy of Hell.
