The Green Gem of the Werewolf is a fist-sized faceted crystal holding a miniature werewolf; squeezing it makes the real werewolf suffer and flee — a prison that is also a command. It belongs to Mr. Wolf, who called it “a receptacle”.

History

It appeared on the ground of the clearing on a full-moon night. Sasha picked it up and was half-hypnotized — there is something inside — and a second later the werewolf leapt on her, claws ringing like metal. Inside stands the werewolf in miniature, as if fleeing. When the holder squeezes, the figure suffers, the crystal turns red and bleeds, and twenty meters away the real beast retreats and runs into the woods. After the fight the inner figure lay fallen and the crystal was colder.

The man in an impeccable suit missing an ear came down to the shattered caverns to recover “something stolen from him, a receptacle”, and on hearing the green crystal named clutched the ear he does not have: it was his, and he had been with them all along because he was looking for it. The gem ended at the bottom of the bowl on the altar of the spider-woman (Arachnids), awaiting blood; then, on the third level of the Crystal Tower, it was exchanged on a table for a silver heart, the deal closed on a count of three. Wolf handed over the heart when given the gem.

The blackened Virgin of the mural of the abandoned church holds this gem in one hand. Pontiac called it “the hippie crystal we had in town”.

Open questions

  • A world enclosed in a stone, with someone inside who suffers when it is squeezed, echoes Vala Cristalis, the gem-world Lucifer created in a crystal; the one who sought this gem was also seeking Vala. The link is not proven.
