Fiji is an archipelago in the deep waters of the Pacific in Antiterra, seat of the Virgo platform and of a set of security vaults, and the only recorded point where Antiterra and Terra touch.

Description

Fiji comprises several islands, little charted and not “seen with human or bestial eyes” in this age. It is reached under the sea, by submarine. At certain points the beach sand is “a bit softer”, possibly marking something buried or an access (unconfirmed). Arts of vision answer plainly: “They are in Fiji.”

On charts the island appears superimposed on the platform’s map, shifting “almost at the same speed as the submarine”: island and platform occupy different registers of reality.

The Virgo platform

Fiji is one of the zodiacal platforms spread across the globe: Virgo is in Fiji, Florence and Venice in Italy, Taurus in the United States, and Leo elsewhere. The platform has an assigned guardian of unrecorded identity.

The vaults

Inside the island lie uncounted security vaults, labeled by category — A (Arcade, Magazine, Fashion), B (Fashion). They hold “important information to help us control certain figures”, vital amid the world crisis. A company set its purpose as “to go to Fiji, try to find this vault”. The person responsible for security says: “this place has been breached once in 3,500 years, and we improved the security.”

Where time becomes space

After temporal disturbances “from Terra”, time in Fiji becomes space, and through that conversion the archipelago connects Terra with Antiterra. The two worlds do not cross there: “the exit or union of these two worlds can be seen fragmented”, because the bridge is destroyed on the other side, the Terra side.

A zone called the shadows of Fiji is reached from the archipelago, and a “permanent night” covers the whole area. Fiji was a repeated destination of the gesta (campaign-cycle) — “we go to Fiji”, “they arrive in Fiji”.

Conflicting accounts

  • Some accounts place Fiji among the Polynesian and Melanesian islands of the Pacific; others “in the seas of Southeast Asia”, near the Mariana Trench.

Open questions

  • Who built and who runs the vaults; when the single breach happened, and by whom.
  • Whether the vaults are there because of the bridge, or the two coincide for another reason.
  • Who destroyed the bridge on the Terra side, when, and whether it can be repaired.
  • What the shadows of Fiji are, and the cause and extent of the permanent night.
  • Whether Hockart (“Hockart is in Fiji”) is a person, place or object.
