Emissary (emisario) is a term the archive uses for a neutral being, an agent that repairs the system, and also in several plainer senses that are not fused into one.

In the records of the Deep Ones

  • The emissary is neutral: it serves neither good nor evil but acts as a repairing agent of the system.
  • It cannot cross the border between Mexico and the United States, because of the King’s pacts with the dragons.
  • The first emissary is described as human, quite big, with implants, dressed in wide robes.

Other uses

  • In the Crown of the North, emissaries were sought for diplomatic missions of some magnitude on the expeditions. One of them said his grandparents arrived in the land and were received kindly, and that he and his parents were born there, as much children of this land as any native.
  • In the Invisible Cities, a whole company was called emissaries, or semillares (“seedbeds”), of the Khan.
  • A faint mention speaks of an emissary of forces not native to Alexandria.

Open questions

  • Whether “emissary” is an office, a being, or a title the system hands out where repair is needed.
