Family

  • Armando Cabo, his father, “a revolver man”, is a major figure of the UOM (metalworkers’ union) in Tres Arroyos, where he has an office or residence. His papers include a letter signed by Perón, photographs near Perón and with Vandor, and a term in the UOM leadership in Evita’s time; his milieu is the Vandorist movement. The company interviewed him on 20 February 1967.
  • María Campano, his mother, died on 16 June 1955 in the Navy’s bombing of the Plaza de Mayo, when Dardo was fourteen: “the woman flies to pieces”. Only Irene’s vision recovered that she wore red that day.

History

  • At twenty-five, “very much a man to take up arms”, he led the operation: the hijacking of AR-648 and the occupation of the islands. The group numbered eighteen: Dardo, “Mariana… Cristina Barriero” and “a list of 16 other kids who are the commandos”.
  • With him was María Cristina Verrier, his lover and girlfriend.
  • He gave a cockade to Ricardo Moretti, making Moretti “Dardo Cabo’s contact”; it works as a credential or token of belonging, and opened the company’s investigation.
  • “They gave three years to Dardo Cabo and Yovenco.”
  • In February 1967 his father counted five bullets on the desk “for Augusto”. In June 1969 Augusto Vandor was killed in his UOM office by five shots. The crime was never fully solved; several attribute it to Dardo, when or soon after he left prison.

Conflicting accounts

  • One voice makes Dardo a “UOM unionist”; others give that post to his father.
  • Armando Cabo is called “one of Isabelita’s guard”, which belongs to years later than these events.

Open questions

  • How the occult connection fits the family’s story.
  • Whether the hijacking and the occupation were one operation or two.
  • The cockade’s material and color, and whether Moretti alone received it or it was the badge of the eighteen.
  • Dardo’s appearance, and where his mother lies.
