The White Tower is the tower of the Castle of the Prism taken by Cleopatra: a white tower opposite the great hall, with crystal blocks at its center, “the enormous white tower that still shines”.

Description

It stands “on the side opposite the great hall”, with crystal blocks “at least 3 meters on a side” at its center. It still shines when the rest of the castle is spoken of in the past tense, the only tower said to. It has a door, where Tallador once stood waiting. Height, plan and material are not recorded.

The colored towers

The castle’s towers bear colors: white, blue, green, orange and yellow, each with a “different function, inhabitant or meaning”. The green has “Egyptian decoration”; in the yellow “a glow is seen”.

Occupation

Towers are taken one at a time, by one person each; sitting in one is taking its throne (entronarse, “to enthrone oneself”). “Cleopatra was the one who ended up sitting in the White Tower.” Others wait at the door.

Powers

Its occupant has “some power of manifesting their desires, even if only in an image”, conjecturally attributed to “a sorcery in the White Tower”. Inside, Cleopatra is seen projected, “an attempt at crystallization”, an image of herself beside the crystal blocks. Its central position and crystal make it the castle’s core.

Conflicting accounts

  • A second record places it “in the center of the Cathedral of Light”: Castle and Cathedral may be one complex, two parts of one, or contradictory sites.
  • Whether the Tower of Trials, “the Abode of the Prism”, with its guard of ten, belongs to the castle.
  • Whether the Purple Tower, where women live, belongs to the color system.

Open questions

  • Whether white is the source or the sum of the colors, and whether each color grants a power.
  • What Tallador awaited, and who may enter.
  • What the shine is; the orange tower’s function; the yellow’s glow.
