Bucharest is the Romanian capital as recorded c. 1901: reached by a long train journey, set “on the edge, really”, on the frontier of Romania, a place of passage rather than a heart of a kingdom.

Description
A modern façade: “wide streets with boulevards — that’s why they call it little Paris”. A square with large arcades like those of Barcelona, made for public strolling. The weather in the records is always wet: drizzle, and real rain on the night of the ceremony. Electric light reached “some places, not all; there they also use gas”. Behind the tavern district runs a gaslit alley, the dark reverse of the boulevards.
Events
Around July 1901 the city gathered conspiratorial meetings; information circulating in its taverns tied vampires to the government, without saying who conspired against whom. A night ceremony was held in the rain on 4 July 1901. The city is associated with Uchronic Paris.

- Which frontier it stands on; where the train comes from and how long the journey takes.
- The rite and place of the rain ceremony; the faces of the conspiracies.
- Population, local government and economy are not recorded.
