Holy water is a consecrated substance of Antiterra, made in ceremony by the Templar clerics, that harms enemies steel cannot reach: the incorporeal, vampires and devils. It rests on ordinary water, a resource the world is losing.

Making

It works by consecration, not force. Only the Templar clerics are recorded making it: «Lo han visto crear agua bendita de sus manos en Belén» (“He has been seen creating holy water from his hands in Bethlehem”), with no visible utensil. This is a ritual monopoly: its makers control access to what kills the dead and devils.

Use

Fighters carry a little (“a little holy water I have around”), thrown or spilled; the dungeons that held the Vampire Captain bear its splashes on the stone. It is spent, not hoarded. A small portion is common; “liters and liters” is an exceptional amount.

Properties

  • Against incorporeal creatures “holy water can do more harm” than ordinary magic weapons, as established against the llorona (weeping woman).
  • It is used in rituals for destroying vampires.
  • Blessed weapons are a sister category: “blessed weapons to kill devils”.

Without it, such enemies are beyond an armed group’s reach.

The water clock

Plain water “is becoming a very valuable asset for this planet”, because the portal open to the elemental plane of fire consumes it. The “water clock” is the amount of water the world has to face that portal. In Cumal water runs uphill, as if a bridge had a different gravitational field.

Open questions

  • Whether consecration requires ordinary water, so that the water clock would also limit Templar production.
  • What it is carried in, and how much makes one portion.
  • Its exact harm, and which creatures it does and does not affect.
  • Whether other cults share the ability; whether it has a price or market; whether Cumal’s uphill water relates to the sacred.
