Description

In his elegantly furnished tower light rises from the gem under the crystal floor, so shadows grow upward. Mustached, waistcoated, with dagger and rolled rug, he came from behind a screen, having awaited these visitors.

History

Serving a baleful government under an emperor like the one again ruling Arcontos (whence the colonists moving on Ardis Vala), he hunted self-styled buscadores taking elven artifacts from such foundations, including the golden branch: a rune-sealed trunk with a thorn, really a demon’s summoning trap taking everyone through blood. Its wizard went mad, shadow-possessed; the apprentices fled, and Starko did “somewhat bad things” chasing them. With the branch within reach, Arian stole it and carried it to the green fields of the elves.

Testimony

“Something helped him… he’s the hero, one would say. No. I know what happened with the other cycles. This world was condemned. This world was destroyed. All that remains are memories. I don’t even exist: I only have this memory.”

He would understand Arian before hating him; both were perhaps pawns of a blood-drinker, “the one who now has the master name; he was already there before… even the mists fear him. And you are calling him.” The archive links this figure to Masracht.

Requests

Give “the egg” (the artifact) to no one; remember old Starko, a cog in a larger machine. Offered as the kindest shadow they could take, he was not taken. His charge: “There are cycles, cosmic ones, reincarnations. Break the cycle!”
