Pons Sublicius (Spanish: Puente Sublicio), also called the Bridge of the Furies, is a wooden bridge over the Tiber in ancient Rome, the scene of the flight of GRDT around 230 AD.
The scene
- Overcast midday.
- A chained figure runs toward the viewer: GRDT at the moment of escape, with Aurelian’s Roman captors in pursuit behind. He has help from outside from Juan the Hunter, and starts from the Underground Forums.
- At the far end stands a sanctuary of the Furies: a low column with three carved heads, inscribed FURIBUS SACRUM (“sacred to the Furies”).
- In the background, a silhouette of Rome with temples and arches.
Arkos notes that the chronicler documents no divine intervention as GRDT crosses a bridge consecrated to the Furies, and that greater demons do not fear the Furies.
