Plotinus is remembered by the Archive as a disciple of Ammonius Saccas, in whose school in Alexandria he trained alongside other seekers of Neoplatonism.

The chronicle holds him to be a contemporary of Mani and records a possible meeting between them, across the river during the gesta (campaign-cycle), around the years of Shapur’s court. His name recurs in the margins of the Gnostic thread linking Antioch of Syria with the East of the prophets.
