The Pleiades (M45) are the cluster of the Seven Sisters, daughters of Atlas and Pleione, burning together in a cold nebula. In the cosmic plot that crosses the arc of Byzantium and the Valley of Death, they serve as a marker of the sky: the reference point invoked by those who read time and the stars to fix a position on the vault.

Star chart

The chart preserved in the Archive shows the sisters wrapped in blue haze: Alcyone at the center, around her Maia, Electra, Merope, Taygeta, Celaeno and Asterope, with Atlas and Pleione watching over them. Myth made them stars to free them from an endless pursuit.
