Mesopotamia is a world referred to in the Vala Cristalis chronicle, where it works in two registers: as the mold of the world of the thirteen rivers and as a precedent.
The mold of the world
The land of the thirteen rivers is described as “a kind of ancient Mesopotamia mixed with the medievalism of a role-playing world, a western without pistols.” From that mixture come the plains of Bala where the chronicle takes place.
The precedent
When the gardener Enlil-Bani is chosen substitute king and things begin to go wrong, what is remembered is that at the beginning of the story, in another world named Mesopotamia, a gardener was already king. What is happening in Vala has happened once elsewhere. The ritual that makes it possible is the Akitu.
