Mauríes are hybrid aquatic creatures described as “half mauríes, half river beasts / beasts of the deep.” They are guardians of the port warehouse in Baton Rouge. They are related to the Deep Ones (the fish-men of the Mythos) but differ from them in origin and nature. They are associated with the threat of magical transformation.
Open questions
- Whether the name “Profundos” of the group of companions, which echoes these “beasts of the deep”, is an ironic self-designation or a deliberate echo is not settled.
