Reference

They are a deliberate reference to the four libertines of The 120 Days of Sodom by the Marquis de Sade. Sade was a prisoner of the Bastille, Paris is the setting of the gesta’s central phase, and the crapuls operate with the same logic of ritual confinement and systemic violence that structures the Parisian arc (the Executioner, Host Poker, executions). The closed castle of Silling, where transgression is consumed, parallels the Host Dungeon and the Castle of the Prism (CI).

In the Libertateurs account

  • The castle of Silling appears physically, set in the Black Forest, as the earthly version of the infernal pair recorded in the Castle of Siegling.
  • After the platform game, the crapuls covet the “reconsecrated hosts”.
  • They perform a demonic ritual that summons the Demon Lord “Puppet” (lust).
  • The seer Future “sang them the truth”, foretelling their fate.
