Josefo is a small Jewish craftsman and thief, recruited as an intelligence colleague by Ärsvan in the Temple after the theft of relics.
Description
A minor, young character, quick with words. “Small Jew” may suggest short stature (possibly a dwarf or other small creature). He dresses as a craftsman and carries thief’s tools and a latch tool.
Background
- His brothers are in the fortress of Masada (the historical Jewish resistance against the Romans).
- He is not a Christian, yet offers his services, which his non-Christianity makes problematic.
- He speaks of his brothers’ “betrayal.”
Role
- Recruited by Ärsvan as a “colleague” (not a servant) in intelligence work, and equipped by him with weapons and craftsman’s gear.
- Proposes a messaging scheme with pigeons and a trained falcon.
- Works under Ärsvan in a network of spies and information; active in the Temple under his command.
Open questions
- Whether he is a new companion or a recurring figure is not confirmed.
