History
Her latinized title, Ishtarensis (“belonging to Ishtar”), makes her the formal custodian of the cult in the city. She guided the Wordbreakers’ first actions in Nesut Biti and gave them a formal commission: to recover a ring from the Valley of the Tempest.
Once she had the ring, she mounted the temple’s guardian dragon, took the staff that could control the being holding Talia’s soul captive, and left for Uruk. The Governor of Nesut Biti took it as an affront: she had carried off a responsibility that was not hers to transfer. She appeared again in later arcs.
Open questions
- Whether her departure was deliberate betrayal or a legitimate mission before a higher authority is not settled; the evidence points to conscious usurpation, out of conviction that Uruk had precedence over Nesut in the matter.
- Her name (Jalrua or Halrua) has no simple etymology in the known languages of Vala; some archivists take it for a name of office rather than of birth.
