Ecol is the Captain of the Resistance in the Descent: a black paladin who looks after refugees in the temple of the Paradigms.
- Character: a figure of moral authority, “veiled for holiness; too holy to look at directly”.
- Place: the multiversal temple, outside the tabernacle, possibly in the liminal zone between the Ante-Inferno and the lower circles. His post marks a boundary: the Resistance above, the City of Dis and the pit fiends below.
- Role: a witness, not a combatant, who offers information about the Ark, a sacred object.
