History

Aluc carried her in fragments that did not fit together — deaths, drugs, Italy, Córdoba, her — since before he knew he was dead, and long believed she was a dream. In the occupied church of Santa Felicitas, turned into an assembly, she appeared to him in the hollow of the broken organ and sang with him; only then did he become aware of her again. When the pipers struck up the song of his mother’s Scottish clan, Claudia sang with him.

Lilith, coming down from the roof where she likes to talk, read her through her occultism and held that she is not an ordinary ghost but an emissary of those who resisted. Her words: “Just as you set yourself on fire in life, don’t set yourself on fire in death.”

Open questions

  • Whether she is a memory, a dream, an apparition, a spirit, a vampire or a sire is left open at the end of the chronicle.
