Bes is the owner of Bes’s Bar, the emblematic venue of Torregrises. He is named in the final list of characters of the novel Torregrises.
The chapter “Bes’s Bar” is one of the longest of the novel (pp. 110–124 of the final edition). In it he appears with Paulus and Miranda. His name evokes the Egyptian god Bes, protector of the home, joy and dance.
