The Uchronic Bastille is the Bastille on the uchronic axis, still standing in 1901: a fortress of eight towers. It anchors the power of repressive order in Uchronic Paris against the Revolution.
Description
- Inscription: LIBERTÉ PUNIT L’ENNEMI DE L’ORDRE MDCCCLXXIV (“liberty punishes the enemy of order”). It inverts the republican motto: in the uchronia, liberty punishes the enemy of order.
- A black iron raven above the entrance connects with the imagery of the Ravens’ Club, guardians of the city’s political secret.
- It contrasts with Liberation Square, whose statue shows the broken chain the Bastille denies.
