Tanari are a class of chaotic, evil, serpent-bodied demons in the bestiary of Vala, masters of portals with whom pacts can be made.

| Spanish entry | Tanari |
Description
A tanari has the body of “a serpent, an eel”: long and sinuous. It has “two claws”, which are small and used for gripping. Patillos are also mentioned as an identifying feature; what they are is not described.
It moves by slithering, including through trees, “like a serpent among paradise-type trees”. Its main weapon is its breath, a blast of boiling water that strikes several targets at once. After a fight, it withdraws into the trees.
Those who face them recognize them on sight: «¿Es un tanari?» (“Is it a tanari?”).
Portals and pacts
A tanari “is a master of portals”: its domain is passage between planes. At least one person “had a bond, made a pact with a Tanari”. The terms are not recorded.
Don Tanari
The same name belongs to Don Tanari, a historical benefactor who donated an orphanage. The link between him and the demons is not established.
