The Yellow King is an awaited being “from other worlds”, summoned “from the stars”, whose only recorded trait is a yellow cape. He exists in the world as a pending arrival: the Yellow Queen in Byzantium declares she is “waiting for her king.”
| Origin | ”Other worlds”, the stars |
| Consort | Yellow Queen |
| Spanish entry | Rey Amarillo |
Description
“He has a yellow cape, as of course, Yellow King.” No face, size, voice or smell is recorded. Yellow is his cape, name, title and the banner of the movement that evokes him. He is always spoken of in the singular, as a unique figure, and knowledge of him is rare: “what do you know about the Yellow King?”
Points of contact
- A city in crisis names him as a last resort: “Perhaps he is the only one who can save us.”
- Enemies “were trying to summon the Yellow King from the stars”; the attempt was detected and feared.
- In Byzantium, a seat of government, the Queen awaits him and assigns him a throne.
Invocation and temptation
He acts through invocation, not presence. A named procedure, the Invocation of the Yellow King, is aimed at the stars and can be performed by hostile agents; his arrival is also conditioned by the Queen’s waiting. On souls he acts through temptation: someone was a “possible candidate to accede to the temptation of this Yellow King from other worlds.” The bond comes by individual acceptance, not conquest. To those who summon him he is hope; to outsiders, an enemy operation.
The yellow constellation
Around him gather the waiting consort, a throne, a summoning technique and El Sol Amarillo (“the Yellow Sun”), a revolutionary movement marching under red banners. Whether it is his cult, or the Queen leads it, is not established.
The giant of the courtyard
A yellow giant with tentacles, called only “the giant”, was summoned over a courtyard; it raised a hammer and died from a single blow. Whether it was the King, a manifestation of him, or a beast sharing his color is unresolved.
Open questions
- What relation of command binds the Queen to the King.
- What the Invocation requires, and whether the enemies’ attempt succeeded.
- What the temptation offers and costs.
- Where Byzantium lies relative to the city in crisis.
- Whether the Yellow King has ever arrived.
