Undead (muertos vivientes) are a category of supernatural beings: remains “bound by raw ties and edges” that rise where death should have closed the account. The monks’ chroniclers hold them to be a violation of natural law, and stopping and destroying them a duty rather than a feat. They are found in underground lairs, where they can be fought, and in whole regions that need to be cleared of them.

Organized undead
- A crew of about a hundred undead runs an entire ship, held under a collective will. They climb the hull’s sides and vertical surfaces, and in boarding some, wrapped in flames, hurl themselves at the enemy as incendiary projectiles.
- One record identifies them as reanimated former musketeers.
- Itineraries of the Holy Land record undead defending the city of Jerusalem in battle.
Open questions
- Who raises them, whom the collective will serves, and the name of the ship are not recorded.
