The Kitton is a wingless airborne creature of Antiterra: a sphere of flesh about thirty centimeters across (first measured as “30 or 40 centimeters”), girded by metal bands, from which hang rusty chains ending in spikes and lances. Its flesh is alive; its scrap metal arms it.
Description
- Sphere: the body is hurled at its target; “the spheres each fall like a guided cannonball”.
- Chains: the contact weapon — “those chains with that rusty metal ending in spikes and lances”. The metal is old and appears unmaintained.
- Eye: between the bands looks out “an infernal eye, metal”, which lights up — “its red eyes light up”, bloodshot. Its gaze leaves the victim gripped by a lasting unease.
Kitton augurs
The only recorded encounter involved eight Kitton in the air, appearing beside Lanza Oscura and declared “very evil”. They were Kitton augurs, a named variety distinguished by its magical bond with the plane of shadows, which makes them observers.
Their infernal origin and their link to the plane of shadows place both planes in contact with Antiterra.
Open questions
- Where the Kitton come from and who sends them; they are called infernal, but no hierarchy or summoner is recorded.
- What an augur does besides watching, and what other varieties exist.
- How they move when not attacking.
- Whether the chains are part of the body or equipment, and whether the metal eye grows from between the bands or was fitted to them.
- Whether they are common in Antiterra, and who named and classified them.
