The Auran Empire is the imperial power of Vala that conquered the continent and “aurized” it, and that in the present of the chronicles is withdrawing without fully letting go. Vala’s language, culture and political map are explained by aurization.

History
- More than a thousand years ago (“eight hundred, nine hundred or a thousand”) the chaotic forces of the Thrasians and the Zaharan were halted, and the Empire re-emerged as an alliance of races, above all Elves and humans.
- “Seven hundred years ago the Auran Empire becomes so strong that it conquers everything”: the whole continent.
- Its dominion lasted three to four hundred years before weakening through “battles on the borders”.
- Two hundred years ago the emperor disappeared in one of the regions.
- Today it “is sort of withdrawing”, as “Great Britain left”.
The archive’s gestas take place seven hundred years after the founding.
Description
Its legions “aurize territories that are more distant”; it was “a Rome that mixes sea with land”. It contains Adwen and its cities and “now runs things here” in the region of the chronicles.
Fiscal system
- Imperial taxes can be evaded with influence and suitable dealings; the Argoll family does so “thanks to knowing where there were elven relics”.
- Eighty percent of all treasure found on an expedition belongs to the Empire: «ustedes solamente pueden quedarse con el 20%» (“you can only keep 20%”).
Conflicting accounts
- Conquest seven hundred years ago plus three to four centuries of dominion does not fit cleanly with an emperor vanished two hundred years ago; schools of chroniclers disagree.
Open questions
- Its cities, coinage, standards, arms and garrisons.
- How the emperor vanished, where exactly, and who succeeded him.
- Who collects the eighty percent today, and what befalls those who do not declare.
- What “aurizing” concretely meant (language, cult, law, citizenship).
- Whether the alliance with the Elves persists, and on what terms.
