The Cathedral of Huillas is a cathedral built “with spells” north of the battlefield, in or near Caldero. It is cathedral, school of magic, reliquary and prison of angels, and very dangerous.

Description

One sees first “the stained-glass windows”, then “the doors”, which “are open”. The nave is flanked by a meditation chamber and a chamber with “the noise of birds”; to the south is a library rustling with papers. There is a central statue, stairs down, and an upper sanctuary crowned by a Sancta Sanctorum. That summit stands over the top of the Valley of Crystals, where the two angels were imprisoned by “the one who imprisoned at the summit”.

Hierarchy

Entry is free; climbing is not: “in temples there are hierarchies, ranks of access to floors, to relics.” Down the stairs is “a group of people sitting, giving each other a strange communication”; whether this lies on the same axis is unestablished.

Functions

  • School of magic.
  • Home of an order of sorceresses who perform rituals of magical disappearance; Xenia Urricas enters there.
  • Site of the “protocol of the flame”, known only by name.
  • Meeting point: people go and fly there, holding “a meeting at the cathedral of Huillas”.

Conflicting accounts

  • Names: Huillas (the only fixed form), Wiches, Willard, Williams, “Cathedral of Feathers”, or just the Cathedral.
  • One version speaks of “the cathedrals of Williams” in the plural; all others of one.

Open questions

  • Whether Wiches and Williams are mishearings or another cathedral; whether “Feathers” refers to the angels.
  • Why it is dangerous; what the flame protocol is.
  • Its materials, size and state; its distance from Caldero and the battlefield.
  • Who imprisoned the angels, and their tie to the sorceresses.
