The Waterfall is a five-hundred-meter fall down a red cliff below the ancient city, three or four miles from Glastumville. A door lies behind its curtain, and the treasures of the ancient city lie upriver, guarded by a dragon.

Description

One first sees “a gigantic reddish wall”; then “the roar begins to grow”; in the last two miles “the noise is white noise” and speech fails. At the foot hangs mist two hundred meters across; Glastumville lies within the roar but outside the mist.

The river is “the river Kronos” to some, the river Ucronos in the records. It crosses the ancient city, called Ardis Vala, Ardenbul or Argevala.

Door and passage

A door stands behind the water. From inside, flat-bottomed barges ride the currents to the fall, a path into another section of the cavern.

Waters below

Underground it reappears: an inner waterfall in the cave complex, a fall in the cavern of hell, a jet “like a fireman’s hose”, “a thread of water”, water falling “down a staircase”. All of it “comes from the river above, which is all the capital”. In Ardisvala two gigantic statues flank a waterfall.

Defenses

The foam is “thick and special” and heavy: «No vayan ahí si quieren seguir felices» (“Don’t go there if you want to stay happy”). When the flow rose, the water “formed into about four elementals”. A dragon guards the treasures upriver.

History

The queen-goddess set the goal: “let us go above the waterfall”. The companions were sent there as squires; there, fifteen years ago, came “all that destruction and the fall of the order”. From the ravine to the waterfall and ancient city is two to four days.

Conflicting accounts

  • Distance from Glastumville: three or four miles, or eight or nine.

Open questions

  • Whether Kronos and Ucronos, and Ardis Vala, Ardenbul and Argevala, are one each.
  • Whether “Ardis, the waterfall of the ancient law” is this fall.
  • Where the door leads and how it opens; how the foam takes away happiness.
  • What triggers the elementals: seasonal floods, provocation or intruders.
  • What the fallen order was; what the squires did there.
