The Captain (la Capitana) is the captain of the guard of the whole region of Nesut Biti: a governor’s daughter, sister of the paladin, and keeper of covert dealings that are her own rather than the government’s.

Office and family

The post of captain of the guard exists independently; she holds it for this region. As the governor’s daughter, she keeps military command within the governing house. She reports to a superior. During the emergency she was in Biti. Her house is “on the edges”, on the outskirts of Nesut Biti.

Her guard wears red and is distinct from other guards; she speaks “with another tone”.

The covert channel

“For reasons”, she has been sending things to “the external keys” (claves externas), dispatches to third parties that are “a secret of the Captain”. The word is garbled and may be “external ships” (naves externas), spies or messengers.

The sister and the cauldron

A sister of hers went to the Valley for a ring and did not return. Her body was recovered in the swamp; her soul was locked in a cauldron beneath the city, in darkness. The Captain believes she caused that death; the guilt makes her both manageable and dangerous.

She took part in a recorded rescue: “the Padarina went with her family with the Captain and with her father”.

Conflicting accounts

  • One account names her Capitana Andreas, daughter of a local governor and head of the Guard of Nesut Biti.
  • Another names her Capitana Cristalia (Natalia, to some), daughter of the governor of Uruk.
  • Whether these are one person, two captains, or two holders of the post in different regions is unsettled.

Open questions

  • Whether the paladin sister and the sister who died in the Valley are one person or two.
  • Who put the soul in the cauldron, where it lies, and whether the Captain or her guard knows.
  • Who the Padarina is; who her superior is.
  • Her appearance, age, arms, uniform and house, and what besides color marks the red guard.
