Arboria is a garden-forest of primordial nature, “a setting of perfect green”, set against a realm of nightmares whose noise does not reach it. Those who go there come back changed.

Description

  • Light. The forest is green and bright (“this is the light of Arboria”). The sun shines while a red sunset shows in the distance; at some point “it grows dusk again, redder”.
  • Cycle. Trees carry ivy, but there is “a rotten branch” and fallen leaves: the vegetation “fulfils its cycle”.
  • Fauna. Squirrels that startle, insects “not exactly mosquitoes”, gazelles passing in pairs. The animals flee rather than stalk.
  • The pond. It works “like a mirror”; its water can be drunk freely. It is the only place where a visitor can see their own face.

The realm of nightmares

What sounds “down there”, the realm of nightmares, lies below or outside Arboria. Inside, “the madness” falls silent, but visitors remember coming from that realm, recently faced “with the cards of destiny”.

Adam went to Arboria and came back changed. No price, guardian or prohibition is recorded; the forest is simply walked through.

Ajén Arboria

One sector, Ajén Arboria, is “the best piece”, and it was given, not taken: “it was given to him in Arboria”.

Open questions

  • A passage describing “dawn, sun, and suddenly darkness” and “scorched earth” may be another zone, another moment or another place; its location is inferred.
  • Whether Arboria has day and night or one fixed hour.
  • What “coming back changed” means, and how one enters or leaves.
  • Its extent, distance from the realm of nightmares, inhabitants or owner.
  • Who gave Ajén Arboria, to whom and why; whether the name is spelled correctly, and whether it names a part of the garden or a distinct entity.
