The ring
The ring is not unique: it “can be made by multiple artisans”. Its power is chronal, tied to time. Its price puts it far beyond ordinary means.
The trees
- Red Stone Castle: a large tree grows in its gazebo.
- The meadow: an enormous tree that from afar is taken for a watchtower. It is magically invisibilized and sees without being seen.
- The center of the plains: a tree with ruins and beautiful artifacts.
- Kumal (also written Cumal, apparently the same place): the tree before which the first epitaphs are made, and the Marble Tree, a liturgical stone structure standing for hundreds of years.
- The paradisiacal place one arrives at: a “beautiful” tree with exposed roots and winds felt around it.
Above them all is the Tree of Life, “which goes against death”, a structure at the base of the cosmos.
The branches of the Kumal tree reach down toward the land of the oppressed; it is also called the tree of the fingers of time, its limbs being hands offered to the lost. It is the only recorded connection between the surface and the depths where the oppressed live.
The tree works at once as a disguised watchtower; as a sensory device that works “like a virtual-reality helmet”, producing a hallucination with visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile and dermal components; and as a vertical path of redemption linking above and below.
Open questions
- The ring’s material and appearance are not recorded.
- What its chronal power does, on whom and with what limits, and whether it is active or passive, is unknown.
- What links the ring to the tree (replica, key, fruit, seed or namesake) is not stated.
- Who the artisans are, and how the hallucination is accessed and what it shows, is unknown.
- Whether these are several trees or appearances of one is not settled.
