Alec Terzival is a paladin of Saint Cuthbert’s temple in Caldero and enforcer of the city’s civil authority, from a founding family. Alec has been missing three weeks, catatonic, “the soul separated from the body”.

Family and career

The Terzivals are a distinguished family of Caldero’s founders, “at least of lineage”. The lineage holds a manor, location unrecorded, which was lost. Alec worked first “as an adventurer” and later otherwise, both times “to get that”: to recover the manor.

Temple and city share Alec as enforcer, the arm through which civil authority is applied to people. One source also calls Alec “the paladin of the site of Jenny Auricas”, a place no itinerary fixes. Alec attempted a public challenge, possibly against Balantru, and was prevented from making it.

Disappearance

Having concentrated civil enforcement and the temple’s backing, Alec leaves a gap in power; the absence is recorded as an event in its own right, the Disappearance of Alec Terzival. The body, wherever it is, is catatonic. Someone else shares that state: «Están ambos catatónicos» (“They are both catatonic”).

Conflicting accounts

  • One explanation assigns the same founding genealogy to someone called Arafel while describing Alec Terzibal: one person under two names, or two people confused by the source.
  • The sources say both “paladin” (masculine) and aventurera (feminine “adventurer”).

Open questions

  • Alec’s appearance (armor, weapons, insignia, age) is unrecorded.
  • Who the other catatonic is, what separates souls from bodies, and what Caldero does with such a body.
  • Where the manor is, how it was lost, and whether it was recovered.
  • Who Balantru is, and who could stop the challenge.
  • Whether disappearance, catatonia and thwarted challenge are one episode or three, and in what order.
