The Visconti are a family of lords of Milan in the Florenzen chronicle (1300). They dominated Milan in the past and still keep their main castle inside the city: the lineage no longer rules as it once did, but the stone is still theirs.
The record adds that they took control of the archbishopric of “Milano” (so spelled), though they were always in conflict with the papacy.
