The Midwife (La Comadrona) is an unnamed village woman of sixty. Her strong maternal instinct keeps her from abandoning the wounded. After the failed rescue of Miguelito, she shelters the five anarchists, risking her neck. She evolves from greed to a degree of altruism for a cause not her own.
