Guidi (the Guidi counts) are the house that dominates the Casentino valley from Prato Magno, with two castles. The valley includes the Umbroso valley and the upper sources of the Arno.
Role
- Everything the group must explain happened under their guard: the taking of the valley, the secret mining and the cutting of shipments. For that reason the group ends up named vicar and sent to Poppi, their castle.
- They are an allied part of the faction and also suspected by it. A counselor of Manetto Donati contacts the group’s infiltrator because the Donati want to press on the Casentino, exactly where that part of the allied family sits.
Lombard descent
When Alberich looks into the origin of his helmet, of Germanic make, with a star and a black-eyed lion as iconography, the trail leads to an ancient Lombard chieftain: the same stock from which the Guidi counts claim descent.
