Description

One chronicler’s notebook spells them “Gethyanki”. They belong to no earthly realm. Their aim is not conquest but sealing: to petrify the Dark Queen in the Astral and close the door through which the world could fall. “They do not want the world: they want to close it.”

History

In the plot of the Florentines (Gesta of 1300), Alberich, fallen alone into the silver sea, made a pact with them: he negotiated on their decks over the Stone of the Apocalypse, carried out part of their sealing plan and in the end chose to stay among them. Their commander is a dark figure, “the Black”, thirteenth of his order; their floating fortress is named after a spear aimed at the mind. In the gesta’s historical dress, this host of the void is confused with the Mongol cavalry of the Ilkhanate.
