The Felón are a minor line of the French nobility with roots in the south, in the county of Foix and the lands of Languedoc. In medieval legal tradition the name designated the disloyal vassal. With the centuries it seems to have become an ironic motto or an inherited stigma, and the Felón bear the reputation of people who know how to move between loyalties.
During the Fronde, when Cardinal Mazarin exhausts the patience of the great and the middling alike, the family returns to active life. Gastón and Martín Felón are both documented in the movements of the 1648 campaign, operating from southern France to the antechambers of Paris. Their exact role in the Fronde plot remains diffuse; they are allies of convenience rather than protagonists.
