History

At a crossroads five anarchists awaited an armored wagon, six black horses, taking a man to be shot. Erzsébet approached the escort with a punctured bicycle, weaving witch runes. Sideburned Mr. Wolf smelled the trap: “Shoot her.” The bullet left her resentful and cursed; thus the door of Taurus stayed on the wrong side for a century.

The New World companions, needing her to stop a train, learned the five ambushers were their own past selves: “We are the Sparrows.” The Tana del Lupo laughed: the Ouroboros, the mouth reached the tail.

Through the 1887 portal they replayed the scene from the other side: one raised a stone igloo over her and the child with her; arrows, obsidian knives and sling stones “like David” rained down. Wolf, vulnerable for coming to the past with a heart of lead, fell, badly wounded, alive. Erzsébet was not shot. The rescued anarchist hid at his grandparents’ farm; their past selves were sent to America as revolution’s beacons (“anarchy is love”). The red-haired guitar-playing notary fell for her. The ground bore a magic circle: old coven land of the Zaragoza witches.

They meant to stay until 1888, for her to become guardian unresentful, and until her death year, to prevent it; the eclipse window pulled them out. Her new line is unrecorded.

Conflicting accounts

  • Her death: 1891, 1900 or 1901; also “Bulgaria”.
  • She may be Erzebeth, the Hungarian anarchist witch of the 1888 Uchronic Platforms gesta (prehensile hair, scorpion familiar, the priest-killing shotgun, shot and returned in duplicate), who later, per her own entry, “after the founding phase becomes guardian of the Platform of Taurus and withdraws from active play”. Nationality, trade, year, bicycle and guardianship match.
  • Against this, New World records make Mary Ann Jean, Erzsébet/Herczeg’s disciple, the Taurus guardian; her master died with the other guardians in the Venice hecatomb, around 1900.
