He is a journalist, or wants to be, and approaches the militants who call themselves los cóndores with the only tool of his trade: the question. Notebook in hand, he is there as they prepare their gesta. His curiosity drives him and is his undoing: the gesta begins as a news chronicle and ends underwater, and his urge to keep pulling the thread is the disposition the depths await.
He boards the Aerolíneas flight that, at midnight on 28 September 1966, is diverted to the Malvinas to plant the flags on the peat, landing roughly on a field that is not a runway. For him it is the antechamber of something far older than the sovereignty dispute, beneath the English, cold, glass-bound islands. He crosses the threshold believing he is covering a news story.
The chronicle records him only as the journalist, unnamed.
