El Flamenco, also called “the old man” and the False Master, is an old man in Templar clothes who first appears late in the combat in the Labyrinth on the Day of the False Master.
History
- Earlier days of the Templar cycle: seen dead with a pentacle marked on his chest. He is possibly the “flamenco companion” mentioned in earlier Templar notes (see earlier identity).
- On the Day of the False Master: he arrives “following the thread”, pulled by magic, not voluntarily. He is at first peaceful and carries a blue book. He then declares “I am the new Master of the Order”, a claim to leadership. He is confronted by “another Flamenco”, possibly a possessed demon, and disappears through a teleport contingency, a pre-set magical defense.
Description
He holds a book in his left hand and at first shows no weapon; later he has “a kind of bag” of unspecified contents. He speaks as a cleric or scholar, knows Scripture, cites the Acts of the Apostles (Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch) and questions the group about the possessed dagger. He can detect magic and knows the history of the wood and the vampire.
Role
His role is ambiguous. He may be:
- a Templar loyal to Hugues de Payens, trying to rescue the group;
- possessed or controlled by a demon, attempting sabotage;
- a factotum of Elizabeth de Beauvois (a hypothesis).
Open questions
- Does he return on later days, and is he an ally or an enemy?
- What is his relation to the internal factions of the Temple?
