Cuauhtémoc is a figure mentioned once, in Paris in 1648, when the Fronde was shaking the streets and the Quartier de Saint-Germain was full of minor conspiracies. He was named together with Juan.
Identity
The name sounds like the New World, and it is not determined whether it is a proper name, an adopted nickname or a distortion of a French word. The most cautious hypothesis points to a kinship with, or confusion with, the Cominges family: a son, brother or subordinate of Captain-Lieutenant Francisco de Cominges who for some reason went by that name in the district. He may simply be a passing figure whose real name was lost.
Relationships
- Marcel is linked to the mention: “Juan y Cuauhtémoc estaban los dos” (“Juan and Cuauhtémoc were both there”).
