Encounter

He invites the travelers to his castle and says he is the king of the place. He gives his name as Arsaces, the name of the ancient Arsacid Parthians. He asks them to take that (aquello) where it belongs, most likely Hell, which is exactly where they said they were going.

Identification

  • He is identified with a Lich, dated “a thousand years plus a quarter century” ago.
  • He is also a Book hunter active around the year 360, anchored to a capture at the Library of Alexandria.
  • He is equated with a mage figure named separately. This identification is strong but pending ratification, because it touches the crossing with the Isagogic of Paulus, the Book that is pursued.
