Ariadna is a character, explicitly female, whose nature is unknown: a spirit, an ally, or an ancient incarnation. She is addressed with the words “Damsels like you are welcome in our hosts” (Damiselas como tú son bienvenidas en nuestras huestes).
She is placed in a “little parallel room” (cuartito paralelo) and takes no part in the Knights’ negotiations. She was apparently a guide or counselor earlier, when she is mentioned as having spoken (“Ariadna said”). She was later set aside from the main plane, out of prudence, by Carlos.
A possible reference to the mythological Ariadna (Theseus’s thread, the Labyrinth) is noted.
