She drives around Belgrano in a brand-new orange Chevy with brown leatherette, and is the only one who still fully belongs to the world above.

The night of the trial

  • The harpy Lavinia warns that she must be kept from the recital. The warning half works.
  • To keep her, Víctor tells her the truth, “I am dead”, and proves it.
  • The court rules: kill her, or die with her.
  • Víctor’s sire asks to speak and uses his right of sire: if he embraces her, there is no breach to punish. He turns her on the spot, mid-masquerade.

Angie survives and now belongs to no one but her new sire. Víctor is saved, in debt, and answerable to the court for what his companions do; the band breaks apart from within.
