Description
It was built as a residential town to which the white population migrated, away from Gary’s Black neighborhoods and, according to the records, in response to the political influence of Black mayors. One voice calls it a “Truman Show style” perfect town.
Families have settled there, including the families of the company, sent south. The company itself was invited; Maryville is mentioned as the site of a possible opportunity for studies, though it is not recorded whether it was taken.
