Louis XIV, king of France, called “the Sun King”, is in 1648 a boy of ten: a minor, not yet crowned, with the kingdom under his mother’s regency.

His birth was held to be a miracle. He was the late-born son of Louis XIII and is therefore called Deodato (“given by God”); in gratitude a temple was raised at Val-de-Grâce.
